San Diego, CA has a rich history, including being the tuna capital of the world from the 1930s to the late 1970s. WD-40 was invented in San Diego by the Rocket Chemical Company in 1953.1 The center of San Diego was originally located in Old Town, but in 1867, Alonzo Horton purchased several hundred acres of waterfront property and built a wharf at the end of 5th Avenue and began to develop what is now known as "New Town." San Diego has the largest number of original Dr. Seuss manuscripts in the US, approximately 7,000.
