Albany, New York is the oldest city in New York State and even older than New York City.1 It was named after the Duke of York's Scottish title, "Duke of Albany," in 1664 when the English took control of the area.2 Albany was home to underground railroad stops and the Eastern New York Anti-Slavery Society, formed in 1842, held their meetings in the old City Hall building in Albany.
